Head Librarian

Bachelor’s degree in Business, Political Science, Public Administration or Education or similar from a reputable university. Master’s in Library & information science or documentation or Information Management is a definite plus.

Minimum 10 years of administrative experience within the Education sector, schools or universities, ideally as a Head of Library or Library Manager or other related roles.

Background in library science and proven experience working in libraries is a major plus.

Able to demonstrate leadership skills to ensure that the library runs smoothly and have a vision for how to improve services and meet the needs of users.

Ideally familiar with libraries management systems.

Trilingual: Arabic, English, French

The Head Librarian assumes the responsibility for overseeing all aspects of the Library's management and operation. The primary objective is to deliver exceptional service by maintaining an atmosphere that is welcoming and conducive to learning as well as meeting the evolving needs of the students, staff, and Members. Additionally, the holder of the role is expected to foster a learning culture based on physical and digital resources. Below is a summary of main responsibilities:

  • Responsible for managing the day-to-day operations of their library in alignment with the educational needs of students and faculty.
  • Oversee all aspects of the library’s services, including acquisitions, cataloging, reference services, programming, and other activities.
  • Contribute to curriculum and/or policy development as requested.
  • Ensure that library media resources and educational technology are supporting the 9-12 academic programs, and that they are well communicated to students and teachers.
  • Provide resources for using technology in education and contribute to the library’s digital enhancement.
  • In charge of teaching students research skills through an appropriate use of information across a breadth of physical and digital resources
  • Manage, train, develop and supervise library staff, while undertaking staff performance management appraisals.
